Illustration of the hypothesized course of peak frequency and neuronal activity across different stages of AD. This figure presents a working model based on previous results from electrophysiological studies. While the oscillatory peak frequency is progressively slowing over time, neuronal activity is hypothesized to follow an inverted U-shape curve across the course of AD. Please note that the group with subjective cognitive complaints presented here refers to subjects with confirmed amyloid pathology (by CSF or PET), in contrast to subjects with a diagnosis of subjective cognitive decline without amyloid pathology that are included as elderly healthy controls in this study
